ZiMNy Meets Grammy
Editor Thom Zimny won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video last February. Zimny was producer/ director of the feature-length Bruce Springsteen documentary Wings for Wheels: The Making of ‘Born to Run.’ The video was released last year as part of Springsteen’s Born to Run 30th Anniversary Edition Box Set.

A feature film and television editor, Zimny recently edited Edward Burns’ feature, Purple Violets, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. His television credits include three seasons as the editor of HBO’s The Wire.

“Being an editor gave me a unique perspective while directing Wings for Wheels,” Zimny says. “However, the most rewarding aspect of this project was the ability to fully realize my vision from beginning to end.”

ABC Honors Levinson

ABC News staff film editor Marty Levinson, right, was recently honored for his 45 years of service with ABC Television in New York and the Walt Disney Company with the presentation of the Disney 45-year Service Award by David Westin, President of ABC News.

The decades of work by Levinson, who has been a member of IATSE Local 700 and its predecessor––Local 771––for 47 years, now provides the ABC News Film/Videotape Library with vital historical information and background knowledge about the extensive collection of news film that is still actively in use today. Levinson is currently the library’s sole staff film editor.

Warners Taps Angarola


Bill Angarola, MPSE.

Sound editor Bill Angarola, MPSE, has been named vice president, post-production services, Warner Bros. Studio Facilities. He joins the department’s senior management team, with primary oversight of its television operations, and is also charged with managing sound talent as well as growing the television editorial business.

Angarola was previously senior vice president, television, at Ascent Media Group. He has also served as supervising sound editor/director of editorial at Todd-AO West and worked at Skywalker Sound and Modern Sound. He has won Emmy Awards for his work on Northern Exposure and the movie-of-the-week Unnatural Causes, as well as eight Golden Reel Awards for best sound editing for television.

Another Berkos Book

Retired sound editor Peter Berkos, MPSE, has recently published his second novel, Tpito the Third Twin (Trafford Publishing), which explores the phenomenon of a human “whole-body” transplant. Berkos’ other writing credits include the novel The Double Double-Cross, the two-act play Harmony, several short stories, and a special book in tribute to his late wife, The Memoirs and Reflections of Sally Ann Berkos.
