Training Room Update

The West Coast training room continues to expand. Thanks to the efforts of Brian Damsky, Dieter Rosek and Andy Larson, weve installed several new systems and acquired materials for practice. New additions include the following:
- A Media/Film Composer Version 10.5, in the form of a new Media Composer Offline XL (formerly called Avid Improv). This is Avids new low-cost system. It offers most of the capabilities of its more expensive siblings, including 24P editing, but without online resolutions. Our system has an 888 audio package (the standard configuration has only two channels of audio I/O). Special thanks to Barry Nulman at Avid for helping us obtain this system.
- A complete set of sound elements for an action reel of the Morgan Creek picture, American Outlaws, including dialog, foley, sound effects and backgrounds, prepared for our Fairlight MFX 3. This library of real elements should be very helpful to members who wish to improve their Fairlight skills. Paul Huntsman helped arrange the donation from Morgan Creek and Warner Bros. Special thanks to Angel Pine and David Robinson for making it possible.
- An Adobe workstation consisting of a Macintosh G4, a 21 monitor and the latest versions of Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere. This system was purchased by the Guild after the generous donation of the software from Adobe Systems senior product manager for Premiere, Richard Townhill.
We also have a Pro Tools Version 4 system (Version 5 machine is in the works), a Media Composer Version 7, a Lightworks, a complete Final Cut Pro setup with a 24-frame Aurora Igniter card, and, thanks to Runway Editing and Moviola Digital, four new tables. The equipment has been provided to us so that members can practice their skills after completing Guild-approved classes. Those needing to refresh their skills or check the systems latest features are also welcome. We badly need additional dailies for these systems. If you can help, please let us know. Members may sign up for two-hour blocks of time, Monday - Friday, 10am - 6pm. Call Brian Damsky or Dieter Rosek at (323) 876-4770 ext. 246.
