Message From Our President

Welcome, New Members

The Motion Picture Editors Guild welcomes our new post-production sound members and studio projectionists. Our membership now numbers close to 4,700 and that is quite an imposing figure. The office staff, under Ron Kutak's direction, will be increased to deal with the requirements of our larger membership. Remember that the staff is going through a learning curve, so be patient.

There is much work to be accomplished so that your interests will be realized. This will take time. A new constitution will be written to give proper representation for post-production sound and studio projectionist members. The International has to approve this document and then it goes to our membership for approval. After that, we will hold general elections for new Board members.

New technology is growing exponentially and we must learn to master it. We will again be making a proposal to Contract Services to provide training for members during 1998. It is imperative that all our members avail themselves of these training opportunities if they want a motion picture career.

We all share the same major post-production problems: compressed schedules, long, long hours, short turn around time, and continual seven-day work weeks. Our goal is to develop solutions and now, with our combined membership, I feel this can be possible. So welcome, new members, and let us all work together for the betterment of our membership.

Donn Cambern
