Showbiz Expo 2001

The Guild booth at this year’s Showbiz Expo was more impressive than ever, thanks to Caroline Yablans, our new Special Events Coordinator. Featuring a huge curved poster, the installation was the most polished that the Guild has ever assembled. Staffers and a host of volunteers from many classifications fielded questions from passers-by and explained the work that members do. They sold T-shirts, handed out frisbees and copies of the Guild Magazine and explained the benefits of union membership.

Andy Larson, Caroline Yablans and Mark Jeffares

Many post-production equipment manufacturers were conspicuous by their absence at this year’s show, held from May 31 to June 2 at the LA Convention Center. While dozens of production vendors were on hand, the only familiar post-production names were Edit Point, Magic Film & Video, Promax and Sonic Desktop. With a burgeoning number of equipment exhibitions, including the rival Cine Gear Expo held the same weekend, manufacturers have been increasingly selective about which events to support.

The American Cinema Editors contributed to the Guild booth by providing a clip from the video version of the 'Invisible Art/Visible Artists' panel discussion, which ran continuously on a large monitor. Edited by Allan Holzman, the completed video will be available from ACE later this year. ACE and the MPSE also had booths of their own.

The Guild offers a special thanks to all members who participated at our booth. Your efforts helped to make this our best showing yet.
