The State of California has expanded its Employment Training Panel (ETP) funding to include Editors Guild members who work freelance. Previously, only those members working on staff at fixed facilities were eligible. The ETP program, which started June 1, is funded by the State of California in conjunction with Contract Services Administration Trust Fund (CSATF). Classes are 100% subsidized and require participants to work at least 500 union hours within a six-month period after training has been completed. Participants must be California residents and on the Industry Experience Roster.

Currently, only Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools classes are offered. If the program continues to be a success, it will be expanded. Check our website for details.

Thanks to Avid Technology, the Training Program’s practice room has received an Avid Xpress DV 3.5 system, running on a Mac G4. We’ve also received new training materials, thanks to Ellen Feldman of Avid, Peachpit Press, Focal Press, CMP Books and Promax.
For more information, contact Brian Damsky or Dieter Rozek at (323) 876-4770 ext. 246.

We continue to offer a five-day Avid class taught by fellow union members at the Guild office. The cost is $150/student and includes extensive handouts. Starting in September, we will offer training in Final Cut Pro as well. In addition, members in good standing can receive financial help from the Help Fund for classes offered at outside facilities.
