Welcome to the second issue of Editor’s Guild Magazine being produced by Sharon Benoit and her staff. I feel they have done a wonderful job and would like to congratulate and thank them for their work.

We have another great issue for everyone. Andrea Van Hook has written a piece on “Women in Post Production” that presents a good, clear picture of their thoughts and experiences in this ever-changing field in which we work.

Our very own vice president, Dede Allen, is being spotlighted on the new Tail Pop page. One could write endlessly about Dede and all the amazing and innovative work that she has accomplished throughout the years.

We have extensive coverage of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas from Patrick Gregston and Pamela Malouf. Patrick takes on the technical aspects of the convention (an overview, new product introductions and conference meetings), while Pamela covers the lighter side of this popular convention and updates the Guild on high definition delivery.

Norman Hollyn has written another of his illuminating “View” pieces on New Line Cinema’s “The Notebook,” edited by Alan Heim and released on June 24th.

We hope you enjoy these and all of the other special features and articles in this issue. We would appreciate any comments, feedback, or ideas that you have about the direction our magazine is taking. Please make sure you sign your name and affiliation so that we can reprint your letters in our Letters to the Editor section next issue!

One issue that I want to address as president is the practice of our members being forced to work unpaid overtime. This is a very serious situation and we need your help to do something about it. The board has been discussing strategies and we will be scheduling a meeting to cover this topic in the near future, beginning with editors and assistants who work in television. This abuse has been happening far too long and it is our responsibility to come together to find a solution.
