C.A.S. Best Sound Awards

Local 776's Walter Murch, C.A.S.(a re-recording mixer for 'The English Patient') was among those who were presented with Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing in movies and television at the Cinema Audio Society's (C.A.S.) 33rd Annual Awards Banquet.Tomlinson Holman, best known for developing THX, was presented with the C.A.S. Career Achievement Award by film director (and college chum) Andrew Davis and Oscar-winning sound designer/re-recording mixer Ben Burtt. Davis commented that "Tom Holman has now become the reference to which all intelligent analysis of entertainment sound is to be evaluated."
Along with Walter Murch, re-recording mixers Mark Berger, C.A.S. and David Parker and production mixer Chris Newman, C.A.S. received the award for their work on 'The English Patient'. In the television series category, the award went to re-recording mixers Robert Appera, C.A.S. and Ken Burton, and production mixer Joe Kenworthy, C.A.S. for ABC's 'N.Y.P.D. Blue -'Unembraceable You.' For the movies-of-the-week, miniseries and specials category, the award went to re-recording mixer Ken Hahn and production mixer David Hewitt, for the PBS special, 'Three Tenors At Giants Stadium'.
