Guild Booth at ShowBiz Expo '98

Take Our Daughters to Work Day is on April 23rd
this year. Many studios and workplaces support this
annual opportunity to broaden girls' career horizons so

The 6th annual L.A. Works Day
is on Saturday, May 16th. It's a citywide day of
community service. More than 4,500 volunteers will give
the L.A. community a new shine by painting, landscaping
and revitalizing 14 public schools. For info. on how to

The 5th Annual Revlon Run/Walk
for Women will be held on Saturday, May 9th.
Organized by the Entertain-ment Industry Foundation, this
event raises funds for the fight against breast and

Spirit
Hi-Res Telecine Installed at Encore Santa
Monica
|
Encore Santa Monica has installed a
Philips Spirit DataCine, the first on the West Coast for
commercials use. Film frames are scanned at 2,000 lines
of vertical resolution in near-real time, with a 300-watt
Xenon light source, producing digital data for today's
525- and 625-line video standards, as well as tomorrow's
high def video.
The International Monitor Awards event
of the ITS will be held on July 11th at the downtown
Regal Biltmore.
A one-day UCLA Extension seminar,
"Digital Backlot: an Introduction to Digital Image
Creation for Film & TV," takes place on Saturday,
April 18th at Raleigh Studios. Fee is $135. Other
upcoming short courses include: "Digital Video
Technology" and "Digital Versatile Disk." Online

SMPTE will be producing a day-long
seminar, "Charting the Course of TV Technology in the

Quad
Format Optical Tracks at NT Audio
|
NT Audio Video Film Labs announced
that they've just purchased their second Sony Dynamic
Digital Sound camera, making it the first facility in the
world to own two SDDS cameras. NT Audio was also the
first post-production facility to provide all available
sound formats on one sound negative - quad format. NT
Audio quad titles include this year's Oscar contenders
'Air Force One' and 'Titanic.'
