OSCARS 2002THE ACADEMY NOMINEES DISCUSS THEIR KEY CREATIVE

For the third year in a row, the Editors Guild Magazine approached the Academy nominees in Film Editing, Sound and Sound Editing and asked them to write about their work on the films for which they were recognized.

On behalf of the magazine, President Lisa Churgin posed this seemingly simple question:

What were your key creative challenges in making this picture?

It's no small task to summarize months or years of work in a few hundred words. But on the following pages, the nominees offer thought-provoking reflections that together provide a unique glimpse into the creative and technical hurdles presented by the nominated films. In doing so, they've created something akin to a time capsule -- an inside look at the current state of post-production from the point of view of some of its creative leaders. The Editors Guild congratulates all the nominees and thanks them for their participation.
