Editor Charges Across America

Guild member editor Kris Trexler drove a GM EV1 electric car on a 3,000 mile cross country trip, starting out from L.A. on May 13th. He wanted to show America and the world that long trips in electric cars are not only possible, but fun. Kris took a Mac PowerBook laptop computer along and a QuickTake digital camera courtesy of Apple Computer, so photos and diary updates could be added to his website from the road. Many sources of 220 volt electrical power were arranged before the trip to keep Kris's EV1 charged up.

Kris was one of the first people to lease an EV1 when it was introduced in Los Angeles on December 5, 1996. He had logged over 13,000 miles in his car as of this April and says without reservation that it has been the most reliable vehicle he's ever owned.

Watch for more on his trip, and a photo, in the next Newsletter.

Phone Scam

Don't get conned by a phone call from anyone claiming to be a telephone service technician conducting a test on your phone lines. He will say that to complete the test you should touch nine (9), zero (0), the pound sign (#) and then hang up. By pushing 90# you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, allowing them to place long distance phone calls billed to
your number. This scam has been originating from many of the local jails. Do not press 90# for anyone.

BAFTA Awards

Proving, once again, that Guild editors are the best in the world - British Academy awards went to Peter Honess for editing 'L.A. Confidential' and, for best sound, to John Leveque, supervising sound editor on 'L.A. Confidential'.

Are You Interested In A Saturday A.M. Seminar?

Joe Farrell's National Research Group runs the previews for most studios and major independents. After a preview, schedules change, endings are re-shot, and our members are affected. Mr. Farrell has agreed to speak to Guild members in September on a Saturday morning. We need to know how many people are interested-Saturday morning is an unusual time for a seminar. Please call 1-800-432-3348 if you are.

Listen to Guild Seminars On the Web
