By the time you read this the new Editors Guild Membership Directory should be available on the Internet. Thanks to the efforts of Administrative Director Lisa Dosch, Administrative Assistant Daphne Robinson and Local 700 member and webmaster Jay Scherberth, our new web-based service will supplement the traditional printed directory and make it possible for anyone to view completely up-to-date member credits with a few mouse clicks. The new directory has many advantages:
If you haven't updated your credits yet, navigate to our web site and do so. You'll need your user id and password, which you can easily obtain by visiting our home page. You'll be able to make changes that will appear in the printed book for a limited time, but you can update your online information whenever you like. The book will be mailed to Guild members and the post-production industry in the first quarter of 2003.
Former Field Representative Andy Larson has relocated to Chicago to head our new Midwest office. We've never had a presence in this part of the country before, and we're very excited to establish one. We now have national jurisdiction, and that makes it our mission to organize on a national basis. Andy will focus on assessing the needs of our members who live in the Midwest, looking for potential organizing targets and leading the resulting campaigns. There are vast organizing opportunities in the Chicago area and we are confident that Andy will be successful in building a Guild presence in the second city. Our new office is at: 6317 N. Northwest Highway
The Guild is very pleased to introduce members to our new field representative, Catherine Cusimano. She grew up in the Philadelphia area, graduated from Ithaca College with a BFA in
Guild staffers first met Catherine when she was employed as an assistant editor on a show we attempted to organize. She played a vital part in that struggle, and during those days on the picket line, she realized that her true passion is to fight for the rights of working people. After the campaign and some soul-searching, she decided to make a career change. She attended an organizing seminar offered by the AFL-CIO and made her intentions known to the Guild. When Field Representative Andy Larson decided to accept the task of opening our Chicago office, Catherine immediately came to mind as a replacement. Because one of our main focuses now is to eliminate overtime abuses for assistant editors we felt it was important to hire a field representative with an editorial background. Catherine had been pressured to work overtime without pay and successfully stood her ground with several producers. Catherine has been with the Guild since June and in that short time she has proved herself to be a great addition to our staff and a valuable resource for the membership. We are delighted to have her with us. The New York office has also hired a new organizer, Arsenia Reilly. For more about her, see The Eastern Breeze. |
