Editors In The Public Eye
Public radio station KCRW featured several prominent editors on 'Hollywood Wrap' on Monday, July 28, 1997. Carole Littleton, Mark Goldblatt and Debra Neil-Fisher spent the half-hour show talking with host Nikki Finke about what editors do. She was so interested in "the business of editing" that she continued the discussion on the following week's show.
You can listen to these shows over the internet if you have the RealAudio plug in for your browser. The KCRW Web Site carries these, and lots of other radio shows from their archives. All the Hollywood Wrap programs are there, dating back to December of 1995.
The Real Audio player is available at no charge from the RealAudio site (or go directly to the download page). For more information, and for installation instructions for AOL Mac users, see this month's Short Takes.
The Big Sound series at the County Museum of Art concluded with a talk by Guild member Richard Anderson and a showing of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (which had won him an Oscar). Richard also ran the amazing "bake-off" reel of 'Daylight' for comparison.
The August 31st Valley edition of the L.A. Times reported the ten fastest-growing occupations in L.A. County, as projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The expected change in 1993-2005 for film editors is 131%, right behind athletes, home health care workers and computer engineers.
