Some Background
On The Training Program

This is a chance to explain why the training program has temporarily gone on hiatus. Contract Services Administrative Trust Fund, (CSATF), more commonly known as Contract Services, was set up under the Basic Agreement (the industry contract) to operate and manage a wide variety of programs that are relevant to both the IATSE and the AMPTP, such as training in the new technologies, the I-9 program, administering the facilities for grievance procedures, and many more functions.

This is all supported by mandatory contributions by the production companies of a specific amount based upon each hour worked by a union member.

Every year, the Editors Guild sends a questionnaire to all eligible members to get an estimate as to how many people are interested in taking classes and on what systems. With this information, a budget proposal is submitted to Contract Services for the upcoming year. The Board of Trustees, consisting of labor and management representatives, then makes allotments of funds for training, not only to our Guild but to all the locals that have applied.

When the allotted funds are spent, the training comes to a screeching halt and the program goes on hiatus until more funds are allocated. We know only that this will be sometime early next year. There is no set date.

Please note that all applications that have not been processed are now invalid. You must file a new application next year.

Remember that the Guild has an Avid, Lightworks and Pro Tools available in the office for practice purposes. Tutors are available Monday through Friday 9:00-3:00. Call the reception desk to schedule practice time.
