by Steve Cohen Our new discussion groups are attracting more and more Guild members, who are logging on to talk about everything from Avid technical topics to the editing of their favorite pictures to how the Guild can make it easier for members to report contract violations. Last month we held our first live online chat. On a Saturday morning members logged on to discuss their favorite Avid bugs and their experiences in dealing with Avid technical support. Rick Breniser, technical director at FilmCore in Santa Monica, was the special guest. The most common problem that members reported was shared media going offline for mysterious reasons. There was also a general consensus that the established methods of communicating with Avid about bugs and feature requests don't work well. To read the chat transcript, just log on to our home page and click the "First Online Chat" button. With the recent mergers our membership, distributed across the United States, is larger than ever before. Online discussion is a great way for all of us to communicate. Please join the growing online community. Our new software is easy to use, and you can log on or request a password from our home page The first time you visit the discussion groups, select "remember my password" from the logon screen and bookmark it. Then simply go to the bookmark for a quick check of new messages. (Note that our Members Only area is different from the discussion groups and still requires you to type your password. We're working on changing it). Steve Cohen is an editor on the Board of Directors.
