Contract & Employment Tips

SECTIONS:

Use the Available List

Don't forget to use the Guild's Available List. When you're unemployed and looking for work, mail in the special card or call the office. You will be put on the Available List which is provided to signatory companies upon request. Always remember to phone in and have your name removed when you find a job. The list is updated every day. You need to send in a card every 45 days while you are jobless in order to stay listed.

To add or remove yourself from the list electronically, click here. (You must be a Guild member with access to the Members' Only section of the web site to use this service).

Night Premium Pay

Did You Know That...

Night premium pay should be paid if you regularly work a night shift. According to our current contract, if your scheduled work-hours are between 8 pm and 1 am the night premium is 10% of the scheduled rate, and between 1 am and 6 am it is 20% of the scheduled rate. This does not apply to anyone on the 'On Call' schedule or on a distant location.

Vacation Pay

Under the Major Agreement

  • 4% of your guaranteed weekly wage accumulated during the calendar year is payable on or after March 15th of the following year.
  • Employees on payroll are required to schedule, on or about March 15th of the present year, vacation time earned in the previous year.

Under the Independent Agreement

  • Your vacation pay is 4% of your guarantee per week, payable weekly.

Holiday Pay

Under the Major Agreement

  • Your holiday pay is 3.719% of your guaranteed weekly wage. Holidays are paid as they fall and at the end of the year, amounts actually paid to you are compared to the total of 3.719% of your earnings. If you receive less than the 3.719% of your earnings during the year, you will receive the difference on or after March 15th of the following year.

Under the Independent Agreement

  • 3.719% of your guaranteed weekly rate is to be paid weekly by your employer. If a payroll company is the paying agent, holidays may be paid as they fall, with the weekly amount accumulated. Any money still due the employee will be paid at the end of the production. Each employee should request this money from the payroll company upon completion of the project.
  • Any money owed for vacation and holiday pay should be requested by the employee in a timely manner from the employer.

The following are the official holidays negotiated by the IA:

New Year's Day
Washington's Birthday (3rd Mon. in Feb.)

If one of these holidays falls on a Saturday then the preceding Friday is the holiday. If it falls on a Sunday then the following Monday is the day off.
