Deal Points You or Your Agent Should Know

When negotiating your deals there are several points you and/or your agent should keep in mind:

  • Be aware many overtime payments can be computed at the scale rate in effect. Make sure your deal provides all overtime payments are paid at the "rate in effect" (your over-scale rate).
  • On-call editors are entitled to receive "double time" after 12 hours worked in any day. For example, during the first 5 days of work the pay should be 2 x 1/60 of the scale rate for the week.
  • Do not agree to work on an "on call" basis if no such classification exists in the 776 contract for the classification in which you are employed. Be aware an over-scale deal for a greater number of hours than your guarantee is not the same as working "on call".
  • Please be sure to know who your employer is, that is, what company name will appear on your checks. This is important when working for an independent to ensure you are being paid under the union agreements.

If you or your agent have any questions regarding your deal please call the Guild before you sign the document in question.
