FOREVER, FIFTY!
A half-century ago, Forever, Darling, the second feature film starring television’s then-favorite couple, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, was released on Valentine’s Day (The Long, Long Trailer in 1954 was the first). The editorial staff for the film was the same for the long-running TV sitcom, I Love Lucy (1951-57): editors Dann Cahn and Bud Molin and their assistants Gary Freund and Ted Rich.
To celebrate the film’s golden anniversary, the editors reunited for a private screening of the film at a theatre in Hollywood this past February. Cahn, a longtime friend of the Arnazes, actually first met Ball in 1934––when she was a 23-year-old-starlet and he was all of 11 years old himself. In honor of Forever, Darling’s 50th anniversary, he will be screening the film at “Lucy and Desi Days,” an annual festival held over Memorial Day weekend (May 26-28) in Ball’s hometown of Jamestown, New York.
