CAMPAIGNING FOR VILLARAIGOSA

Editors Guild Board members Sharon Smith Holley, left, Diane Adler, ACE, and Maggie Ostroff were among the MPEG members who joined the IATSE campaign to elect pro-labor Antonio Villaraigosa as mayor of Los Angeles. On Saturdays, May 7 and 14, before the run-off election, they made house calls to IA members to get out the vote for Villaraigosa. It worked.

MURCH BRUNCH

On April 30, the Motion Picture Editors Guild’s New York office hosted a brunch and open house to welcome visiting filmmakers in town for the Tribeca Film Festival––which was being held a block away––as well as other Guild members. The idea of Guild Alternate Board member Carrie Puchkoff and Assistant Executive Director Paul Moore, the brunch also welcomed award-winning editor Walter Murch, ACE, who was the subject of a special event later that day at the festival. Introduced by Board member Marc Laub, Murch spoke of his career on both coasts and spent an hour meeting and talking to filmmakers from around the world and to his fellow Guild members.
