Walk 10k in Their Shoes

Come participate in the 21st Annual AIDS Walk by joining the Editors Guild Team. The 10-kilometer walk will be held Sunday, October 16. The walk begins at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood and the route winds its way through the city. The event benefits AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) and other local AIDS-related services organizations in LA County which provide a dental clinic, a women's program, food banks and residential and transportation services. APLA is also a leader in HIV and AIDS prevention education on statewide and national levels.

Last year, the Editors Guild team (with special Guild tshirts provided by L.A. MadDogs) raised over $3,000 for the cause—and had a great time doing it. To sign up for this year's walk, please call Board member Maggie Ostroff at 310-475-4108.

There's Gonna Be a Showdown

It's Apple versus Avid in the upcoming Editors Guild seminar "Editing: A Side-by-Side Comparison," where Avid's Adrenaline system will face off against Apple's Final Cut Pro. Co-sponsored by Key Code Media, Electric Picture Solutions and Visionary Forces, the event will compare and contrast the competing systems in terms of input, media management, project organization, editing, graphics, effects and output utilizing two teams of operators.

"This event will provide Guild members with a detailed examination of these two popular editing systems in a side-by-side comparison," says Michael DeMucci, head of sales and marketing for Visionary Forces, a broadcast equipment rental company. "Industry professionals will have the opportunity to find out about the system features that matter to them in a no-spin, no-hype environment. Attendees will be able to pose questions, make comparisons and judge the systems' capabilities and performance for themselves."
