VFX and GFX Temp Workflow from Mid to High Tier Scripted Films & Television: From Avid to Photoshop to After Effects and Back

This is one workshop session with a ½ hour break from 2:00pm – 2:30pm

This course is open to 5 active members from picture editorial classification.

Pre-requisites: Members should have some experience doing temp comps in Avid. Basic familiarity with After Effects and Photoshop will be helpful .


In this course we’ll be creating advanced temps and graphics outside of the Avid using Photoshop in tandem with After Effects. Attendees will comp, paint out, rotoscope and motion track various video plates using existing dailies footage.


Outline:

•An overview of basic tools available in Avid Media Composer

•Establish workflow for taking motion graphics and other elements into Photoshop and After Effects

•Introduction to Photoshop using basic repair and text generating tools

•Introduction to After Effects: Setting up a comp, motion tracking (using both After Effects’s internal tool as well as the supplemental advanced motion tracker program - Mocha)

•Return shots to the project using correct codecs and color settings

 

Bio:

David C. Valdez - is currently the First Assistant Editor on Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and has AE’d on BlacKkKlansman, Chi-Raq, She’s Gotta Have It, and more. He’s also worked on the VFX intensive show Happy! for the SyFy network.
