This course is open to 5 active members from the picture editorial classification. Participants must be proficient in at least one editing system, and be comfortable using keyboard shortcuts for most common functions.
When you register, please indicate which platform(s) you are fluent on, and which platform(s) you’re interested in being able to switch to more easily. Since not everyone will have the same goals and requirements, instructor would need this information to help him plan the flow of the class and adapt the emphasis to your actual needs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The goal of this class is to take you from a solid understanding of one nonlinear editing platform to a new one -- aiming for cross-platform fluency. Keyboard customization is a major topic, and I will share some sample customizations for you to use. The class focuses on Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro, but we will also compare FCPX and DaVinci NLE’s from time to time. The goal is to help increase your fluency cross platform.

10-11am - Important differences between the interfaces, organizing media, Exchanging or migrating Metadata, XMLs, and EDLs
11-12pm Keyboard customizations
12-1pm Cutting and trimming
1-2pm Break
2-3pm Syncing audio and video, multicam edits
3-4pm Keyframing and animating object properties
4-5pm Audio mixing
5-6pm Practice project

Rob Brink brings a decade of cross-platform software training to this class; Rob teaches in the film program at Fashion Institute of Technology, and he recently joined the editors union while working as an Assistant Editor on a six part documentary series for A&E.
