Instructor: David Andalman
This is one workshop session with an hour break from 1:30pm – 2:30pm
This workshop is open to 10 active assistant or Editing Room Assistant.
In this course we'll cover AE-ing from many perspectives, such as how to foresee and meet the expectations of producers, directors, editors, post supers, script supers, sound teams, venders, and DITs, based on budget, personalities, and workflows of the movie. We'll explore the technical end of the craft from beginning (budgeting and designing workflows), to the end (mastering deliverables and archiving). And along the way we'll gain insights into learning the business as it continues to evolve and shift technically and artistically. This means touching on Resolve, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other post production tools. And it includes how best to land the job itself, what pitfalls to look out for, and how to cultivate fruitful relationships along the way.
David Andalman wrote & directed the movie AMERICAN MILKSHAKE (starring Tyler Ross, Shareeka Epps and Leo Fitzpatrick), a Sundance premiere that sold for North American Distribution to Kevin Smith Movie Club and Phase 4 Films. His short works have participated in the majority of top US festivals plus the Whitney Biennial, with most recent pieces starring the academy nominated Chloe Sevigny and the singer songwriter Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. As an editor, post supervisor, assistant editor, and associate editor, Andalman has worked for A-list directors and producers including Barry Levinson, Jason Blum, and Jane Rosenthal. Having cut pieces in 2017 that won both an Emmy and a Clio, Andalman went on to cut the forthcoming feature film CROWN VIC, starring Thomas Jane and Luke Kleintank.
