Outline:
This seminar is designed for the up and coming ERA or Assistant Editor who has yet to work on a feature from beginning to end, although anyone in the guild is welcome.
Alec Styborski has worked as an Assistant Editor for Bill Pankow, Tim Squyres, Andrew Marcus, and Andrew Hafitz and has worked on a variety of different projects, including 3D, high frame rate, and mixed format movies.
Seminar Timeline:
11:00 AM – 1:00PM
• Introduction:
o How I became an Assistant Editor and what I find important about the job.
• Pre-Production:
o Getting ready for the job, workflow call, tech specs, and computer setups for the editor.
• Production:
o Differences in feature and TV project setups.
o Paperwork, media management, and prepping dailies bins for editor.
o How to stay organized for screenings and fast turnovers.
o More project and media management tips to keep everything running smooth (importing stock footage, sfx, and various elements for the edit).
Lunch Break: 1:00 PM – 1:25 PM
1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
• Turnovers:
o Turning over to DI, Sound, Music, and VFX departments.
o Differences between feature and TV turnovers.
• Wrap:
o Wrapping the job and tips to stay organized to make sure you have everything readily available.
