The Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act (MPTERA) is bipartisan legislation to create a federal incentive for domestic film and television employment. The measure has the backing of the IATSE and other entertainment unions, as well as representatives and senators from both parties. If passed by Congress and signed into law, it would provide tax credits ranging from 20% to 30% for production and post-production work performed in the U.S. These federal credits would be in addition to the tax incentives already offered by many states.

Over the past four years, the U.S. share of global film and television production has fallen from 52% to 38%. This decline is due in large part to other countries’ efforts to lure work away from the U.S. by offering generous tax incentives. The consequence has been a crisis in underemployment that has our members struggling. The MPTERA will help to level the playing field and will bring entertainment jobs back to the U.S.
