Benefits of Membership

The Union Advantage

Motion Picture Health and Welfare (http://www.mpiphp.org)
Rated as one of the best health plans in the country, the health plan is paid entirely by producer contributions on your behalf and includes coverage for spouses and dependents.  Benefits include comprehensive medical, hospital, prescription drug, vision, dental, death and dismemberment insurance coverage. In addition, contracted wellness programs offer preventive screenings and educational programs.

Motion Picture Pension Plan (http://www.mpiphp.org)
Participants enjoy the benefits of two plans: the Motion Picture Industry Pension Plan (Pension Plan), which is a defined benefit pension plan, and the Motion Picture Industry Individual Account Plan (IAP), which is a defined contribution plan. Both are funded 100% through employer contributions. The Pension Plan provides a fixed monthly benefit payable for the Participant’s lifetime after retirement. It may also be payable to a Beneficiary following the Participant’s death. The IAP provides a lump sum or annuity benefit payable to the Participant at retirement or to the beneficiaries as a death benefit.

IATSE National Benefit Funds (https://www.iatsenbf.org)
The IATSE National Benefit Funds include the Pension, Annuity, Health & Welfare, Vacation and 401(k) Funds. You are eligible to participate in the Funds as an employee only if you are covered by a collective bargaining agreement providing contributions to one or more of these Funds.

Working for union shows automatically guarantees set wages and work conditions. Field representatives are available to answer all your questions regarding rules pertaining to our contract and will ensure that all contractual provisions are adhered to on your behalf.

Post-Production Practice Facilities
Keep your skills up-to-date in our practice rooms. The facilities feature the most modern equipment, popular software, a comprehensive library and access to online training programs. A technical representative is available throughout your stay to answer questions and offer assistance.  Reservations are required. Appointments can be made Monday – Friday and two weekends per month.

Training Courses
Training courses at participating facilities are also available to members in good standing (roster requirement may be applicable).  The cost for these training courses is subsidized, but many of the facilities waive the cost entirely.

Available for Work List
We offer all prospective union employers 24/7 access to the Guild’s database of members’ resumes. Resumes are created and maintained online by the members themselves. The database search results include the member’s name, contact information, resume, skills, and references.  Search functionality includes the ability to find members by classification, skills, region, language, and keyword.

Magazine (www.cinemontage.org)
The Guild publishes CineMontage, an award winning, 4-color magazine, four times a year. CineMontage covers all aspects of post-production, including technical tips, new technology, industry and labor news, interviews, and updates on Guild business.

Each month we have private screenings of current movies in state-of-the-art theaters.  Active and retired members, plus a guest, are invited.   In addition, many industry invitations are extended to the members of Local 700.
