The Political Engagement Committee works to mobilize Local 700 members in support of pro-union political candidates and measures that benefit our members. We encourage Guild members to register to vote, to cast their ballots, and to support causes and candidates that advance the interest of union members and post-production workers.
In the upcoming special election in California, the California Federation of Labor Unions and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor are backing Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act. Prop 50 is a measure that would temporarily redraw congressional district maps in order to counteract the Trump administration’s efforts at gerrymandering in Texas and elsewhere. Trump is trying to move the goalposts in order to maintain a stranglehold on Congress, so that he can rely on a rubberstamp for his assaults upon workers’ rights. Unions are backing Prop 50 because it gives us a chance to elect more pro-labor representatives to push back against the administration’s anti-union, anti-worker agenda.
