COURSE DESCRIPTION
This seminar is designed for anyone from the picture classification who would like to learn the art of narrative film editing, cutting room dynamics, and how to navigate relationships with assistant editors, producers, directors and studio executives.

- Discussion on cutting room dynamics. Relationships between editors, assistants, producers and studio executives.
- Screen scenes from films Bill Pankow edited, including comparing storyboards to finished scenes, and discuss.
1:05 PM – 1:25 PM
1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
- Screen more scenes
- Discuss what editors look for in selecting dailies.
- Grammar of Film Editing.
- Q and A
BIO
Native New Yorker BILL PANKOW, A.C.E. has been in the editing room since graduating from NYU Film School in 1974. He has worked on more than 40 feature films, 10 for director Brian De Palma, including “The Untouchables”, “Carlito’s Way “and “Femme Fatale” which brought him a Best Editing award from the Seattle Film Critics.
Bill has worked with many other directors including Joel Schumacher, Gary Winick, Charles Stone, Paul Schrader, Boaz Yakin, Abel Ferrara, Laurence Fishburne, John McNaughton, Tsui Hark and John Leguizamo among others. He edited “Mesrine” directed by Jean Francois Richet which received 10 Cesar nominations including one for Best Editing.
His television credits include Tales from the Dark Side, The Equalizer, Tribeca, Treme and Mars. His work on the Emmy Award winning HBO series “The Corner” directed by Charles Dutton brought him an A.C. E. Eddie award nomination as well.
Bill has been a Guild member since 1975.
