Join Scott Brock, longtime assistant / associate editor to the legendary Thelma Schoonmaker, for a fascinating look at the editing of such movies as "Casino", "The Departed" and "The Wolf of Wall Street". After recapping his initial career and tracing how the industry transitioned from film to digital editing, Scott will lead students through the creative process and unique work environment used by Ms. Schoonmaker and Mr. Scorsese, then discuss the future of assistant editing and where the field needs to go, with an examination of future software and hardware development needed in the future of the digital filmmaking process.

This seminar is open to 100 active members of the Guild.

 



Scott Brock is an editor with over twenty-five years of experience in the motion picture editing industry.  He has been principal editor on numerous feature films, including “Legacy” (Thomas Ikimi), “Blue Road” (Oliver Cukor), “Limbo” (Thomas Ikimi), “Horace Tapscott: Musical Griot,” (Barbara McCullough), and co-editor for "The Moderns," (Alan Rudolph).  He has also been Film Editor Thelma Schoonmaker's Associate Editor on the following films: "Silence", "Wolf of Wall Street", "Hugo", “Shutter Island”, “The Departed”, “The Aviator”, “Gangs of New York” and “Casino”. 

He is currently Additional Editor in the upcoming Scorsese project, "The Irishman."   Scott also created the Ang Lee tribute reel for the Creative Encounter Event in February, 2014.  He was also Staff Editor and head of the Editor/Assistant Editor training program for Lightworks U.S.A. when the office was based in Los Angeles. A self-published photographer, he specializes in fine art photographic digital printing. He holds a B.A. in Motion Picture/Television Production from U.C.L.A.
