Remote Ciné-Club: Sorry to Bother You

The Outreach Committee invites you to a remote Q&A with editor Terel Gibson ACE about his work on the 2018 film “Sorry to Bother You“ directed by Boots Riley and starring LaKeith Stanfield as Cassius Green, a telemarketer who discovers a magical key to professional success, in an alternate present-day version of Oakland, and has to choose between profit versus solidarity as his coworkers try to unionize. This film emphasizes real-life moral conflicts in a daring and creative way.

Due to the current suspension of all live guild events, it is recommended that members watch the film independently prior to the Q&A. The film is about 2 hours long. It is available on Hulu and on Amazon. Please note that the film is rated R (for pervasive language, some strong sexual content, graphic nudity, and drug use)

This Q&A is an opportunity for members to learn about how Terel and Boots went about crafting the story, and the film making cleverness that went into creating the unique look and feel of this film.

Ciné-Club is a screening and Q&A series that focuses on films edited by our members.  All of this year's selected films feature unions in some way as their subjects or elements of their stories. Previous events include Bound for Glory, Norma Rae, and Newsies.

The Editors Guild is proud to support and highlight an African American story that shows the power of protest to stand up for better working conditions.
